Let me begin by sharing my personal ideas about travelling in general. After that I´m gonna move to describing whole my tour of the United States in April 2014 day by day.
For me travelling is one of the main goals in life and it´s one of the ways how to go through whole life happily and with smile on face. Our green-blue planet is full of amazing places, animals, plants and of course people. Staying all life in one place is like watching great movie in one minute – you cannot desribe how good that one minute was and with no context to other part of the movie it doesn´t make any sence. To see other cultures and habits of people from other parts of the planet changes everyone and enriches each individually. I could write about this passion for hours but I must admit that I realize that happiness is feeling inside and can grown in every place without travelling anywhere.
So lets stop about travelling itself and move on to describing the most exhausting trip ever! Last Sunday of January I woke up and checked my phone as usual. There were message from my friend about cheap fly ticket to the United States of America. We didn´t hesitate much and in the evening that day I had awesome ticket from italian Milano to Chicago to Las Vegas and from San Francisco to New York to Milano just for 7.910 CZK tax included of course. My friend insisted on travevel through north Italy before flying to the United States so we flew from Prague on Saturday morning to Venice and had two days off free in Italy before Monday departure to the States.
Exploring Treviso, Venice, Mestre, Padova and verona
Our adventure started in the little town Treviso quite close to Venice airport and after that we travelled to Mestre. There we booked our hotel (not in advance but in that moment where we wanted to stay there). It was good base for our later trip to Venice. After refreshment we went by bus to the center of Venice where we bought all day pass on boat taxi which was floating all around the main island of Venice and to islands Murrano and Burrano. Now I wanna make an statement: If you are in Italy, you should visit Murrano and Burrano! I don´t like Venice cause it is smelly, crowded and prices are like from other world but these two islands are heavenly pretty, clean and with less number of tourists (cause everybody care just about the main island of Venice). That was Saturday.
On Sunday we packed our stuff and went by train to Padova where we spent just one hour (but we saw city center!) and after that we went by train again to Verona. Italian city which is famous for the third largest colloseum in the world and world wide known story of Julie and Romeo. Then we moved to Milano airport where we slept on the ground and was thrilled of our morning flight to New York and then Chicago.
Last night to Europe and flight to Chicago
Well, the night was horrible – cold ground, red eyes, hair was in the state that could be scary for some people. We went to the check in in Malpensa airport Terminal 2. Italian girl on check asked us on couple of security question.
After boarding we sat on comfortable American Airlines seats. The seats in these planes are build for average americans – quite comfy and wide. Flight was seven and a half hour long and with instant food and drink, mixed with sleeping run quite fast. After landing at JFK in New York we had just one hour before our flight to Chicago. In Chicago we fought with eight hours Jet Lag and after check in on the hostel we couldn´t fall asleep so we went to the city center. – Chicago night was nice. Next morning we went to the city center again. Chicago was pretty cool city but I must say that couple of hours for city center is enough.
After getting to the Chicago airport we had to wait couple of hours, because our flight was delayed. We were so thrilled of our trip to Las Vegas that we didn´t care at all.
„Las Vegas is sort of like how God would do it if he had money“
Flight was four and a half hour long and was without any food. After arrival to Las Vegas airport we were surprised that slot machines and other gambling machines were seen in first seconds after leaving Gate. This is just other evidence that Las Vegas is a real heart of gambling in the whole world. So we finally entered to my city of dreams that I was admiring since my childhood. I saw couple of movies made in Las Vegas that I really loved. We put up in our hotel called Hooters, which was quite cheap but compare it to the price really close to the city center.
Las Vegas hotels and casinos are all build in the similar style. They try to accomodate as much people as they can in the upper floors and in the entery floor that is always full of slot machines, black jacks, rulletes and wheels of fortune. So after check in we went down to the entery floor to start gambling naturally! You are in Las Vegas once a life so you have to gamble there even if you never gambled. It is similar like paying entery fee to some attraction, here you pay for fun from gambeling and that experience. Of course we started with just couple of dimes and dollars on the slot machines. We played like half and hour, laught a lot and loose just a couple of dollars.
After making picture of us playing slot machines we went to bed – again fighted with nine hours of Jet Lag compare it with Prague. Adrenalin, Jet Lag and thrill and expectancy about next day do not let you sleep very well. I have it almost on every my trip so I´m quite used to that kind of sleeping. Next morning we both woke up at 6:20 and couldn´t fall asleep so we went for a first walk to the Las Vegas city center. Started in one of the tens of local fast food that we didn´t know from East coast. Here it was much more fatty and with more calories apparently. It was tasty though. Then we continued in our walk on the main street called Strip leading us to the most famous casino called Bellagio which was built on the wrecks of first casino in Vegas in 1946 with the honorable name The Dunes. I could describe the true city center with most massive casinos Bellagio, Cesar Palace, Flemingo (also one of the oldest) and Paris. We spent most of our time in Bellagio and Cesar Palace. Main reasons were their history and lack of people compare it with others (I dunno why).
We gambled the whole two days – the first time in my life and very probably the last time in my life. Once hour we was winning and the couple of minutes later our pockets was empty. That was real Las Vegas and we loved it! But our time of leaving was going closer and closer and we were preparing for our night bus transfer to Los Angeles.
Night bus to Los Angeles (Megabus)
Two hours before midnight we started to walk to bus station of Megabus which is really far from our hostel and we really walked more than two hours. Night that was in front of us was one of the worst – just 5 hours of sleeping in the bus. After 5 hours of driving in the bus we came to Los Angeles. This city is also really important for me cause of movies and its history. We had just one day here before our next departure to San Francisco so we tried to see as much as possible from this massive city. We started on Venice beach that was quite dissapointment but pretty awesome sunrise made our day sunny.
During lunch time we were already in the Hollywood part of LA where we got by metro line. We made photo with Hollywood sign which is also very famous and was one our goals to check. We had great weather condition and we´ve got into it as closest as possible. We also visited Universal studio in Hollywood that was free (very important for us after Las Vegas :) ). We also visited the pavement of famouse aka stars on the ground with famouse names. There was nothing special on it. After that we were completely tired of walking and no sleeping so we just visited random metro station and got on the streets (to be honest it wasnt completely random because we picked metro line Beverly where was made Beverlyhills 9211). We were hungry so we bought Hot Dog on the street (we usually bought them in 7/11 „stores“) so this was actually the first time on the street. My friend had some stomach problem after that so it wasn´t probably best choice.
Night bus to San Francisco
We had couple of free hours left so we also went to the city center to Starbucks and waited there for two hours till our last bus to San Francisco. Time of departure was quite better according to the last night – 22:30. We slept pretty good that night cause we were so tired that we could fall asleep almost anywhere. Morning woke up in San Francisco wasn´t pleasant for us but we had to manage our accomodation. Some part of San Francisco (unfortunatelly that one where our hotel was) are like from horror movie! But North coast with view to Alcatraz and Golden Gate Bridge are definately must see.
From san francisco via new york via milano to Prague
After three days in San Francisco we flew to New York (used our favourite MTA, Air train) where we had just one day from shopping and visiting our favourite Five Guys burger „store“. I´ve been in New York for the third time so there wasn´t much more to see for me – one day was enough. Our last day was really fast cause we travelled back to Milano and 40 minutes after arriving we´ve been departing with EasyJet to Prague airport.
The whole journey was awesome but for near future I´m gonna travel just to Asia continent. That is the part of the world that I love the most.
